I have the same problem with the HP comm recovery that I hope I am responding to the post that I was just looking at. Anyway, the question is in the title so i'm just writing words now to fill the space.

We have absolutely no way to know which post(s) / thread(s) you were viewing.

 

The answer to your question:

Posts are answered privately when there is a need to provide information that is not suitable for public scrutiny.

 

For example, the question(s) or answers might include private owner / user information.

 

 

"Many others" having the same issue: 

  • Lack of personal response might mean there is no new information.
  • Lack of personal response is sometimes the result of "tagging on" to another customer's answered thread.
  • "Others" having the same issue is of interest in a general sense - It is true that many questions are asked multiple times.  It is also true that some questions are not answered or that there are no "good" Community answers for a particular situation.
