Omen 17-an096nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a problem with windows 10, just like most if not all other high-end users and gamers.
Every month or so I need to reinstall drivers, mainly chipset and graphics.
Windows 10 is known for it's forcefully pushing their own drivers on the system, which do not work properly for high-end use.

Therefore I want to get rid of that disease and go back to Windows 7, so the laptop can function properly.

Any idea how I can get my way around the flawed system that disallows the installing lower than Windows 10?

@Grandaelus

That would be more problems than good because HP does not supply Windows 7 drivers for your machine

     https://support.hp.com/au-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-17-an000-laptop-pc/15551440

and nearly all machines which run Intel Gen 7 and 8 processors. Your machine runs Gen 7 CPU.

Regards.

Hi:

There are two possible obstructions in your way...

1. Intel only developed W10 graphics drivers for platforms with the Kaby Lake chipsets.

There is a possible modded W10 driver that may work though.

See this discussion...Bruce BTS's post.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Windows-7-VGA-drivers-Probook-450-G4/...

2. Some model wifi cards won't work on W7 even though there are drivers for the cards.

What model wifi adapter does your notebook come with?

That's a big mistake...

Windows 10's functioning is well below good.

Drivers would be no problem for me to get, as parts are not HP, but other brands. That i will be unable to find them on HP website is their problem.

It is a gaming laptop afterall, not to be windows 10 degraded.

If intel's gen 7+ disallows so, that would be different. However, i never heard of such.

You do not seem to realise the laptop uses nVidia and not Intel graphics. It is to be installed via GeForce Experience, or function lowly.

The wifi is an intel ac 7265, which is according to intel supported on windows 7, 8, 10 and linux.

HP Recommended

You don't seem to realize that your notebook has the Intel 630/nvidia switchable graphics adapters, not just Nvidia.

You need to get both graphics adapters to work.

The Intel graphics mod I posted is the only one I know of how to get the Intel part of the switchable graphics to work.

Yes, the Intel 7265ac will work on W7 with no issues.

Some models come with the Intel 3168 ac 1 x 1 wifi adapter which will not work on W7.

Sorry that i kind of attacked you on that subject.

Earlier there was a worker from HP who kept annoying me. However, that shouldn't be an excuse.

Thank you for the info on the 2nd graphics drivers that i will need. I have seen the instructions from the link you gave. Though i think i found another solution, one that needs no modding of files. Intel gave drivers for it (win64_154519.4678.exe is the file i found from forums of intel).

Please correct me if i am wrong in trusting this info.

Besides all this, there has still been no solution as to how i can actually install windows 7.

"The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant" STOP: 0x000000A5 (and then some)

You're very welcome.

I did some searching on that error, and I couldn't find any guaranteed solutions.

Most of them tell you to update the BIOS.

Several folks on this forum have installed W7 on platforms with the Kaby Lake chipsets, so I don't know why that is happening to you.

You have already enabled legacy mode, and disabled secure boot, correct?

Are you installing W7 from a USB flash drive or DVD?

You are installing from a W7 SP1 edition?

If you are installing from a flash drive, you should run this utility to put the USB 3 drivers into your W7 flash drive installation media.

I took a look at the Intel graphics driver file you posted (win64_154519.4678.exe), and in order for that driver to work, your notebook has to have one of these graphics adapter hardware ID's supported by the W7 portion of the driver.

I do not believe you will find the hardware ID for your notebook's graphics adapter on this list...

So, if you can get around that The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant" error, you should be able to get W7 working fully on your PC.

If you do, let me know, and I will give you the links to the rest of the drivers you need.

Now thAt's an answer...

I will get to it right away this weekend.

Want to perform this all 100% fluently.

So you will hear from me by then.

And yea, i install via a USB drive, though i am not sure the install holds sp1. I will know after little researching.

Letting you know all when done.

OK, good luck.

I think if you are installing W7 SP1 with the flash drive and you use that utility, it has a good chance of working.

Sometimes those errors get generated because W7 doesn't have the exact message for each situation.

In other words, I don't think it is a BIOS issue.  How could the BIOS in your PC not be ACPI compliant?  Well, that's just not possible.

That message used to get generated on ancient PC's where folks were trying to install W7 or XP.

I'll be around to help out.
