Hi @aditya2904,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that your HP OMEN 16 laptop’s battery is not performing as expected, with quick drainage and inconsistent percentage drops. Let's go through the necessary probing questions and troubleshooting steps to diagnose and address the issue.

  • How do you typically use your laptop? Are you running high-performance tasks like gaming, video editing, or other intensive applications?
  • Do you have any battery-saving settings enabled, such as Battery Saver mode or Power Efficiency?
  • How often do you fully charge your laptop, and do you keep it plugged in most of the time?
  • Have you noticed any changes in battery performance after specific updates or software installations?
  • Is your laptop frequently used in hot environments or on soft surfaces (like a bed or couch) that might cause overheating?
  • Have you experienced any recent power fluctuations or used a different charger recently?
  • Have you checked the battery health status through the HP Support Assistant or Windows battery report? If so, what did it show?

Let's try these Steps:

Check Battery Health:

  • Open HP Support Assistant and go to Battery Check under the "Battery" section.
  • Alternatively, generate a battery report:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
    3. Open the generated report file to check battery wear level and capacity.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  • Set the laptop to Balanced or Power Saver mode if it’s on High performance.
  • Adjust screen brightness, and turn off keyboard backlighting if not needed.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Check for any BIOS updates and drivers for your laptop:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest updates for your specific model.
    2. Ensure your graphics drivers and chipset drivers are up-to-date.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @aditya2904 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Run Battery Calibration:

  • Perform a battery calibration to ensure accurate readings:
    1. Charge your battery to 100% and then let it drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
    2. Recharge it back to 100% without interruption.
    3. Repeat this process to recalibrate the battery meter.

Check Background Applications:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and check the Processes tab.
  • Look for any apps or processes that consume high power and consider closing them or managing their startup impact.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down your laptop, disconnect all external devices, and unplug the charger.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds, then release it.
  • Plug the charger back in and power on the laptop.

Monitor for Thermal Issues:

  • Use HP Command Center or HWMonitor to check temperatures. High temps can cause faster battery drain.
  • Clean the air vents and ensure they are not blocked.

Run Battery Diagnostics:

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
  • Press F2 to select System Diagnostics > Component Tests > Battery Test.

Review Power Usage Reports:

  • Go to Settings > System > Battery and review which apps are using the most battery.
  • Consider disabling or uninstalling unnecessary high-drain apps.

If the issue persists after these steps, there could be a deeper battery fault, and it would be best to further inspection at an authorized HP service center.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
