Hi, I really would like if my keyboard would stay backlit, even when im not typing for a while. I looked on the forum and tried the BIOS setting in advanced, but i do not have the "advanced" setting. I hope someone can help me with this.

Short Answer

If the computer BIOS lacks the Advanced section, it is not "missing" - rather the section is not available on your computer.

This means you cannot control the time out on the keyboard beyond any settings already available to you.

The Advanced section is available in Business class machines.

BIOS – Backlit Keyboard and other Advanced Options

This is one of those situations where the how-to document mentions that a particular feature might not be supported on every computer.  The document does not offer an exact explanation because the document is not written for YOUR computer.

HP Notebook PCs - Using the Backlit Keyboard

Section: The backlight stays on for only a few seconds

Excerpted

Note:

If there is not a setting for the backlight timing in the BIOS, this behavior might not be supported on the notebook. Check your notebook model's product support documentation to confirm support.

Discussion

In general, and there might be exceptions,

  • Business class computers offer the BIOS Advanced section.
  • Examples of business class systems include and are not limited to:  Zbook Mobile Workstations, ProBook, EliteBook, EliteDesk, and others.

For example

  • The backlit keyboard timeout option is included in the Advanced section as appropriate (assuming system has a backlit keyboard).

  • At this writing, consumer class systems may not include the Advanced BIOS section.
  • Examples of consumer grade systems include and are not limited to:  Spectre, Pavilion, Envy, Notebook.

HP Note

BIOS configurations vary depending on the computer. For further information on a specific computer, refer to the documentation provided with the computer or go to the appropriate document for your PC.

**bleep**.. I really hoped that there would be a way to adjust this...

It is a pretty stupid decision on HP's side to not include this feature on a laptop which costs more than some of their "business class" laptops, especially with gaming laptops...

Anyway, thanks for the reply!

You are welcome.

Bleep, indeed.  It is not a popular answer - we are frequently ignored - or worse - for our trouble to have even responded to this question.  Smiling.

Personally, I agree that controlling the duration of backlit keyboard timeout should be available on all models that support a backlit keyboard.

Stay Safe.
