OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xd0000 (758R2AV)

Hey Omen community,

I recently purchased an

OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-xd0020AX (9X651PA)

and have been experiencing random screen freezes. The system becomes completely unresponsive, forcing me to do a hard restart.

Details:
- Freezes occur during both gaming and light use
- No particular pattern or specific applications triggering it
- Already tried updating Windows and graphics drivers
- Temperatures seem normal when monitored
- Laptop is only 90-100 days/weeks old

Has anyone else experienced this with the newer Omen 16 models? Any known fixes or should I consider returning it while still under warranty?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

@Xavier119, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Screen freezes on your OMEN 16-xd0020AX can be incredibly frustrating, especially when no specific cause is apparent. Since you've already updated Windows and graphics drivers and confirmed that temperatures are normal, here’s a structured checklist to help you dig deeper:

BIOS and Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP Support, enter your product number (9X651PA), and install the latest BIOS and firmware.
BIOS updates often resolve instability issues.

HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc > F2 to run System Tests (focus on Memory and System Board tests).
This will check for any RAM or motherboard faults.

Clean Boot Test

  • Perform a clean boot to rule out third-party app conflicts:
Open msconfig, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
Then, go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, and disable all items.
Restart your system and test for freezes.

Event Viewer Check

  • Press Win + X and select Event Viewer.
Navigate to Windows Logs > System & Application and look for errors or warnings that occurred right before a freeze.

Reliability Monitor

  • Type Reliability Monitor in the Windows Search bar.
This tool provides a timeline of crashes or hardware/software failures, making it easier to identify issues compared to Event Viewer.

Reseat or Test RAM (if accessible)

  • If you're comfortable doing so, reseat the RAM modules or test them one by one to check for faults.

If the issue persists, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
