Welcome to HP Support Community 😀,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Update Windows & Drivers:
- First things first, make sure your operating system is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and hit "Check for updates."
- For drivers, especially graphics drivers, head to Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager), expand Display Adapters, right-click your graphics card, and select Update Driver. If you're using an NVIDIA or AMD GPU, it's worth downloading their apps (GeForce Experience or AMD Radeon Software) for auto-updates.
Update Device BIOS:
- Download and install updates to the computer Basic Input Output System (BIOS). This process is also known as 'flashing the BIOS'. Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help to improve computer performance, provide support for hardware components or Windows upgrades, or install specific BIOS updates.
Optimize Power Settings:
- Since it's a gaming laptop, it likely has power-saving options that limit performance. Head over to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure it’s set to High Performance.
- If it’s plugged in, double-check that it’s not in Battery Saver mode.
Close Background Applications:
- Too many apps running in the background? You'd be surprised how much memory and CPU usage that can eat up. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and see what’s hogging resources. Close unnecessary apps.
Adjust in-game Settings:
- If there is a lag in games, consider dialing down some graphics settings (e.g., shadows, texture quality, and anti-aliasing). You can still enjoy a great experience with these turned down a bit, especially if the game is pushing the GPU too hard.
Check for Malware & Bloatware:
- Sometimes the issue isn’t the laptop, it’s the sneaky software that comes pre-installed. Run a Full System Scan with Windows Defender or any third-party anti-malware program.
- Also, head to Settings > Apps and uninstall any programs you don't need.
Check for Overheating:
- Excessive heat can throttle performance. Make sure the vents are clean and unblocked. Invest in a laptop cooling pad if needed. Also, make sure it's not running on a soft surface that could block airflow (like a bed or couch).
Factory Reset (Last Resort):
- If all else fails and the issues are persistent, a reset might be in order. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Reset this PC.
- NOTE: make sure to back up important data!
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
