Hi @daddyunruly

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry the keyboard backlight isn’t coming on. I know how frustrating it feels when you expect that soft glow under your fingers and nothing happens.

Let’s walk through this together step‑by‑step and bring that Victus 15-fa0031dx keyboard to life again.

1. Confirm the correct key combination

On the Victus 15-fa0031dx, the backlight is controlled by
Fn + F4 (the key with the small keyboard‑light icon).
Press it once for low brightness, again for high brightness, and again to turn it off.

Since you mentioned it isn’t responding, let’s go deeper.

2. Check if the backlight is disabled in BIOS

Sometimes the lighting option gets turned off at firmware level.

  1. Shut down the laptop completely.
  2. Power it on and immediately keep tapping F10 to enter BIOS.
  3. In BIOS, look for Advanced or Built‑in Device Options.
  4. Ensure Keyboard Backlight or Action Keys Mode is enabled.
  5. Save and exit.

This ensures the hardware-level control is active.

3. Verify Windows Mobility Center

Windows sometimes toggles lighting settings.

  1. Press Windows + X.
  2. Open Mobility Center.
  3. If you see a Keyboard Backlighting tile, make sure it’s turned on.

(Some units show this tile, some don’t—either is normal.)

4. Check HP Omen Gaming Hub

Your Victus uses Omen Gaming Hub for lighting control.

  1. Open Omen Gaming Hub from the Start menu.
  2. Go to Lighting or Keyboard section.
  3. Make sure the backlight is enabled and brightness isn’t set to zero.
  4. Apply the settings and test Fn + F4 again.

5. Update the system components

A missing or outdated driver can stop the lighting from responding.

  1. Open the HP App from the Start menu.
  2. Go to DeviceUpdates.
  3. Install all available updates, especially System Interface, Keyboard, or Firmware updates.
  4. Restart the laptop.

6. Power reset the laptop

This refreshes embedded controller settings.

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Disconnect the charger.
  3. Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect power and turn it on.
  5. Try Fn + F4 again.

7. Test in a dark room

Sometimes the lowest brightness level is very faint.
Sit in a dim room and press Fn + F4 twice to ensure you’re hitting the highest brightness.

If you’ve already tried any of these steps, I truly appreciate the effort—it helps narrow things down.

Let me know what happened after trying these, and we’ll continue from there until your keyboard glows again.

  • Some Victus laptops require Fn Lock to be on/off. Press Fn + Esc to toggle.

  • Then try Fn + F4 again.
