hp omen 15 slows down a lot

HP Recommended
hp open 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've had my HP Omen for a little over a year now and I'm running into serious issues with performance.

When I run any game, no matter how demanding it is, the laptop's performance reduces drastically, as in opening any program takes minutes, with constant timing out. I will be playing a game like Valorant, after around 10 minutes of playing my computer runs into the issue and FPS goes from 300+ to 5, making it unplayable, and the whole computer becomes incredibly slow.

To be a bit more specific, it's the 2019 Omen with the RTX 2070 Super and i7 10th gen. The only solutions I have tried are updating my drivers, which was to no avail. Restarting my computer does not do much either, as stated earlier, the performance is restored back to normal but the moment I start to play any game I run into the same issue after around 10 minutes of playing, even less sometimes.

@mrducky04

Most likely due to heat. Please keep machine to run cooler using few options

Open up task manager. Does your frequency seem to hit a cap when under load? Do your fans spin up like crazy while the laptop is slowing down? If so, when was the last time it was dusted out. Might be time to change thermal paste too. But if its slowing down and the fans aren't spinning that fast, it might be a hardware issue or something else not heat related.

Hello as previouses posts says, it's probably a overheating issue.

To Check temperatures you can simply use Omen Gaming Hub but if you need to get something like min max and a graph you can use openHardwareMonitor or a similar software.

You should check if your cpu is throtling you can use any software dedicated to that or as you have intel cpu use intel XTU there is a stress test where you can clearly see if your cpu throttles during the test.

If it's the case, you would need to clean up fans and probably repaste. Ask HP if under warranty or do it yourself if you feel comfortable with the operation. Additionally most Intel CPU can be undervolted with good benefit on temperature and no performance drawback some HP omen have this functionality in gaming hub else intel XTU or ThrottleStop software are your best friends.

After you have done all that run a stress test again and see if it still throttles or not.

It's unlikely to be GPU related as nvidia GPUS in my experience runs slightly lower T° than our laptop CPUs but make sure to check if it's temperature is too high as well.
