OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf1000 (8X3Y6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a omen 16 with specs - i7 14700hx and RTX 4060. After turning on i checked Intel XTU it is always showing thermal throttling and current/EDP limit throttling due to which my cpu clockspeed drops suddenly, causing lags in games. And the service center people are saying reset the windows and bios and it will be fixed. Though I have never changed the bios settings or any other windows configs, they are not ready to listen. Please suggest

Hello,

Your Omen 16's thermal and power throttling issue is likely caused by insufficient cooling or overly restrictive power limits. Here's a structured approach to diagnose and resolve the problem:

Immediate Checks:
Monitor Temperatures:

Use HWMonitor or HWInfo to check the CPU and GPU temperatures under load. If the CPU exceeds 90-95°C consistently, the thermal throttling is legitimate.
Check Intel XTU Settings:

Reset all settings in Intel XTU to default.
Check if undervolting is applied by mistake (even some pre-built systems ship with slight tweaks).
Update Drivers & BIOS:

Update your graphics drivers (NVIDIA GeForce Experience or direct from NVIDIA's website).
Update the BIOS and chipset drivers from HP's support site.
Intermediate Steps:
Inspect Cooling System:

Ensure the laptop's vents are clear of dust. Use compressed air to clean them if necessary.
Avoid placing the laptop on soft surfaces that block airflow.
If your laptop is new, defective cooling components (like thermal paste or fans) might require attention.
Check Power Settings:

Set your Windows power plan to High Performance:
Go to Control Panel > Power Options > High Performance.
Disable power-saving features in the NVIDIA Control Panel:
Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Power Management Mode > Set to "Prefer Maximum Performance".
Thermal Management:

Check if HP's Omen Gaming Hub has fan speed control and set it to Performance mode for gaming.
If you suspect faulty fans, run HP's hardware diagnostics to confirm their functionality.
Advanced Solutions:
Thermal Pad Replacement:

The thermal paste or pads on the CPU/GPU might not be applied well. You can request a professional repaste service, especially if your laptop is under warranty.
Undervolting CPU:

If you're comfortable, you can undervolt the CPU to reduce heat output without affecting performance. Tools like ThrottleStop or Intel XTU can help with this, but note that HP might have locked undervolting on newer laptops.
Raise Power Limits:

In Intel XTU or ThrottleStop, increase the PL1 (short-term) and PL2 (long-term) power limits slightly to reduce EDP/Current throttling. Be cautious, as this can increase heat.
I hope u will find  good answer.
Best Regards
rose

Yes better talk to the store and get a replacement, and before receiving the new one do test it first.
