key ghosting on brand new omen 15T ek000

HP Recommended
Omen 15t-ek000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I recently picked up a new Omen 15T from the HP website for a really good deal on black Friday.
but when I was using it I noticed an issue with the keyboard. Whenever I would input a lot of keys some would stop holding. Like I will be holding W or A or D and then randomly it will not be detecting an input (My character will stop moving in that direction) until I unpressed and pressed it again.
I did some research and I think this is called Keyboard Ghosting? does this 2020 gaming laptop really have that issue? I have all drivers and everything software related up to date.

Things I've tried

  • Uninstalling and installing HID devices keyboard related

  • Factory reset PC

  • Turned of all keyboard filtering

It happens Desktop-wide so every game I play has the same issue. This is especially frustrating in rocket league when every minor keystroke is crucial (yes I play rocket league on keyboard)

I cannot seem to recreate the issue consistently it just kind of happens.

I hope its not a hardware issue because a flaw like this is just unacceptable on a $1900+ laptop.

Hi @Parkrr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let us initiate the keyboard test by following the below steps:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

  • Keyboard Test - The Keyboard test provides a quick interactive functional test of the keys on the keyboard. A keyboard is required for this test. To run the test, click Keyboard, and then click Run once.
The Keyboard Test time is 3 minutes.

If the keyboard test runs and fails then you may reach out to our HP phone support team to explore the available service options for your laptop.

Have a great day!

Thank you for your time, but this test you have instructed me to do does not isolate the issue I am having. The issue only occurs when multiple keys are pressed, so this keyboard test where I am pressing keys 1 by one will not recreate the issue.

@Parkrr,You have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to check to get to know its hardware is faulty, not a software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.

I hope that answers your query. If it did, simply select "Accept as solution", to help the community grow and if you wish to thank us for our efforts, click on the thumbs up for kudos.

Have a great day ahead.

Have you found any solution yet?  I am having the same exact problem you describe on a Pavillion 15-ec1xxxx.  I mostly play Overwatch, so this is extremely annoying as those little hesitations can make all the difference, just as it would in Rocket League.  Have you tried using an external keyboard? I haven't tried it yet on mine.
