Subject: Question about memory expansion and SSD slots – HP Victus 15-fa2787nr

Dear Support Team,

I own an HP Victus 15-fa2787nr notebook and would like to clarify some technical details before performing an upgrade.

  • How many SSD slots does this model have, and what types are supported (NVMe, PCIe, SATA, etc.)?

  • What is the maximum supported RAM capacity?

I have found conflicting information regarding both RAM and SSD support.
On the official HP link (https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/setup-user-guides/victus-by-hp-15.6-inch-gaming-laptop-15-fa200...) it states that the model has 2 SSD slots, but in the manual (https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_11551870_en-US-1.pdf) there is no mention of an additional SSD slot. Moreover, on the HP forum (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Victus-Gaming-Laptop-15-fa2729...) other users also reported similar doubts.

My goal is to expand the RAM and install an additional SSD, but I need to confirm the number of slots and maximum capacity supported before purchasing any components.

Thank you in advance for your official guidance.

Atenciosamente,

According to the parts list for your model (BM7B7UA), your notebook has 1x16 GB DDR5-5600 memory.

HP PartSurfer

Your notebook should support 32 GB with another 16 GB module being installed in the empty second slot.

As far as I know, HP never released the official max RAM capacity information for 15-fa2000 series.

Crucial reports your model series support 64 GB (2x32 GB) DDR5-5600 memory.

HP HP Victus 15-fa2000 (DDR5) | SSD & RAM Upgrades | crucial.com

But you already found that the wmic command reported 32 GB. The wmic command retrieves the memory information from SMBIOS in your system, so no one can tell you for sure that your model can handle 64 GB.

@GasparCTG,

You linked a post inquiring about the number of M.2 slot in a 15-fa2xxx model. I replied to it solely based on the service manual which indicated 15-fa2000 series had only one M.2 slot.

Since then, I found the published HP specs for 15-fa2000 series that indicated that the series models had the dual storage support.

Also, I replied to this post where the person opened a 15-fa2xxx notebook and saw a second M.2 slot.

Considering the above information, your notebook may have two M.2 slots. I suggest that you open the notebook to find it out, as it's the only sure way to know.

Your model supports M.2 NVMe gen 4 SSDs of up to 4 TB in capacity.

I still have one question regarding the RAM limit: is the maximum supported memory 24 GB or 32 GB? The Windows “wmic” command shows a limit of 32 GB, but I have found conflicting information. Could you please confirm the official maximum RAM capacity for the HP Victus 15-fa2787nr?
