Hi @Martin701,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion laptop is turning off after only 2 seconds and staying in BIOS mode without booting into Windows, there could be several potential causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that your laptop is connected to a stable power source and that the battery is charged. A faulty power adapter or battery could cause intermittent power issues.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Try resetting the BIOS settings to their default configuration. To do this, enter the BIOS setup utility (usually by pressing a key like F10, F2, or Del during startup), navigate to the "Exit" or "Reset" tab, and choose the option to reset BIOS settings to default.

Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that all internal hardware components (RAM, hard drive/SSD, etc.) are properly seated in their respective slots. Loose connections or faulty hardware could cause booting issues.

Update BIOS Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there's a newer version of the BIOS firmware available for your laptop. If there is, download and install the latest BIOS update following the instructions provided by HP. BIOS updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve booting issues.

Run Built-in Diagnostics:

  • Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware problems. Restart your laptop and repeatedly press a key (such as Esc or F2) to access the startup menu. From there, select the option for diagnostics (usually labeled as "HP Diagnostics" or similar) and run a comprehensive test of your laptop's hardware components.

Try Safe Mode:

  • If you can access the BIOS setup utility, try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. This will load only essential drivers and services, which can help determine if a third-party software or driver is causing the booting issue. To access Safe Mode, repeatedly press the F8 key during startup until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears, and then select Safe Mode.

Perform System Restore:

  • If your laptop was previously working fine, you can try performing a system restore to revert your laptop's settings to a previous point when it was functioning correctly. You can usually access the System Restore utility from the Advanced Boot Options menu.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your HP Pavilion laptop not booting properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
