Hi @subz1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It’s really concerning that your HP Victus laptop has been overheating and showing black screens when charging, especially since it’s been happening since day one. Let’s go through a targeted set of steps to help you troubleshoot this properly:
1. BIOS and Firmware Update
An outdated BIOS can cause power and thermal management issues.
- Visit Official HP® Support
- Enter your exact model (e.g., Victus 15-fb3000)
- Download and install:
- Latest BIOS update
- System firmware
- Chipset drivers
⚠️ Use a USB drive and external monitor if the screen blacks out during charging.
2. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can cause black screen issues during power transitions.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Save and restart
3. Check for BD PROCHOT or Throttle Issues
If the CPU is being throttled due to false thermal signals:
- Use ThrottleStop to check if BD PROCHOT is enabled
- If so, disable it and monitor temps
⚠️ This is advanced and should be done carefully. Let me know if you want help with this.
4. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics
To check for hardware faults:
- Restart and press F2 repeatedly
- Run System Tests > Thermal and Power
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
