@mrbillsr, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can help clear any temporary hardware or software issues.

Turn off the laptop.

Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external keyboard, etc.).

Remove the battery (if removable).

Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.

Reconnect the battery (if you removed it) and power on the laptop.

Check for Windows Updates

Outdated or missing updates could cause instability.

Press Windows + I to open Settings.

Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.

Click Check for Updates and install any available updates.

Restart the laptop to apply updates.

Run the HP Diagnostics Tool

HP has built-in diagnostics that can help identify hardware issues.

Shut down the laptop.

Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.

Select F2 for System Diagnostics.

Run a Quick Test or Full Test to check for hardware failures.

Check the Device Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can lead to system instability.

Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.

Check for any yellow exclamation marks indicating driver issues.

Right-click on the device (especially Display adapters and Storage controllers) and select Update driver.

Perform a System File Check

Corrupted system files can cause issues. Run the System File Checker tool to repair any missing or corrupted files.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click Start > Command Prompt (Admin)).

Type the following command and press Enter: sfc /scannow

Let it complete and follow any prompts if it finds and fixes issues.

Update BIOS

Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve hardware compatibility issues. However, be cautious when updating BIOS as it can cause problems if not done correctly.

Go to the HP Support website.

Enter your laptop's model number (15-fd0000) to find the latest BIOS update.

Follow the instructions provided on HP’s website to update the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
