Hi @eerosenine
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Victus 16 laptop is experiencing a combination of hardware and software issues, including screen dimming, blinking lights, and difficulty turning on.
Here’s a detailed guide to troubleshoot and address these problems:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, peripherals, etc.).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning the laptop back on.
2. Check for Diagnostic Codes
- The blinking lights on the power button and caps lock often indicate diagnostic codes. Count the number of blinks and refer to HP’s support page for specific error codes.
- If the blinking pattern is random, it might suggest a hardware fault.
3. Test the Display
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or DisplayPort. If the external display works, the issue is likely with the internal screen or its connection.
- If the external monitor doesn’t work, the problem might be related to the graphics card or motherboard.
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
- Access the BIOS by pressing F10 during startup.
- Ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest version. You can download updates from the HP Support page.
- Update your graphics and chipset drivers via Device Manager or HP Support Assistant.
5. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly during startup to access HP’s diagnostic tools.
- Run tests for the display, memory, and hard drive to identify any faults.
6. Inspect the Power Adapter
- Ensure the power adapter is functioning correctly. If possible, test with another compatible adapter.
- Check the charging port for any physical damage or debris.
7. Reset CMOS
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
- Press and hold the Windows key + B key + Power button for 30 seconds. Release the power button first, then the other keys.
- This resets the CMOS and might resolve boot issues.
