Hi @Azathoth79
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your OMEN Gaming Hub isn’t controlling the fans and your CPU is reaching 100°C, it’s likely a firmware, BIOS, or service-related misconfiguration—especially if this behavior started recently.
Let’s walk through steps to restore thermal control.
1. Reset OMEN Gaming Hub Settings
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
- Go to Performance Control > Manual.
- Set fans to Auto, then back to Max.
- Click Apply and monitor fan response.
- If no change, switch to Default mode and restart the app.
2. Update BIOS and System Drivers
Outdated firmware can block fan control:
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your OMEN model (e.g., OMEN 16-xfxxxx).
- Download and install the latest:
- BIOS update
- System Event Utility
- OMEN Gaming Hub SDK Package
- Restart your laptop after each update.
3. Check BIOS Fan Settings
Some models allow fan behavior to be toggled in BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Advanced > Thermal Configuration (if available).
- Ensure Fan Always On is enabled.
- Save and exit.
4. Run HP Diagnostics for Thermal Control
- Download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.
- Open the tool and select Component Tests > Thermal.
- Monitor fan RPM and CPU temperature under load.
5. Clean Boot to Rule Out Conflicts
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Under Startup, open Task Manager and disable all items.
- Restart and test fan control in OMEN Gaming Hub.
6. Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub
- Uninstall OMEN Gaming Hub from Settings > Apps.
- Restart your system.
- Reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
If the issue began after a recent service, it’s possible the thermal sensor cable or fan header wasn’t reconnected properly.
Let me know how the fans respond after these steps, and I can help you isolate whether it’s a software conflict or a hardware oversight.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Azathoth79, I believe what you described is the same issue that I have experienced with my own laptop.
I documented everything here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/OMEN-17-ck1000-ck2000-cm2000-intermittent-fan-dysfunc...
Your laptop model number might be already listed there, but I'd be happy otherwise to add yours if it isn't the case :]
Based on my experience, I believe it isn't worth to RMA the laptop unfortunately because the issue *will* come back after a while. It is a design defect, not a misuse by the end user.
I would recommend you to ask for a refund instead, especially if you live in Europe: any defect that appeared during the legal 2 year manufacturer warranty that is not caused by user damage is eligible for a full refund. I did that on my end and got my money back.
