Hello everyone,
I've been having an issue with my computer recently. Every time I try to start it up, it seems fine for the first few minutes, but then it suddenly crashes or freezes. I've tried restarting it a few times, but the problem keeps happening. What do you think could be causing this? I’m not sure if it’s a software issue, a hardware problem, or something else.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem or have suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best Regard,
Vixe

Hi @vixetaw671
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Your computer freezing or crashing shortly after startup could stem from a variety of causes, including software conflicts, hardware issues, or even overheating.
Here’s a structured approach to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Software and Driver Issues:
- Safe Mode: Boot your computer into Safe Mode (press F8 during startup or Shift + Restart). If the system works fine in Safe Mode, the issue might be caused by a recently installed driver, app, or update.
- System Restore: Use System Restore to roll back your system to a point where it was functioning properly. This will undo recent software or driver changes.
- Malware Scan: Run a complete system scan with antivirus software to rule out malware or viruses causing instability.
2. Hardware Problems:
- Overheating: Check if the computer’s fan is running, and ensure vents are clean. Overheating can cause crashes, especially if it happens shortly after startup.
- RAM or Hard Drive Issues:
- Use your PC's built-in diagnostics (for HP or Dell, press F2 or F12 during startup to access it) to check the health of your RAM and hard drive.
- Replace faulty components if errors are detected.
- Loose Connections: Ensure all internal and external components, like the hard drive, RAM, and graphics card, are properly connected.
3. Power Supply Check:
- A failing power supply unit (PSU) can lead to freezes or crashes. If possible, test with another PSU.
4. Windows Updates:
- Ensure your system is up to date by checking for updates in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Bug fixes in updates could resolve issues.
5. Event Viewer:
- Check the Windows Event Viewer for error logs (search for "Event Viewer" in the Start menu). Look for critical errors or warnings that might pinpoint the cause.
6. BIOS or Firmware:
- Update your BIOS or firmware if it’s outdated. Visit your manufacturer’s website for the latest version and detailed instructions.
