Hi there, I tried so many different ways of installing, but even the initial boot up is soo slow, (like 1 minute just to reach the bios boot list), I have read several users having the same issue.

Has there been any new info on this issue in the last year or so that could help me.

An old 8300 i5 ssf box with Zorin pro also, runs great, compared to win10 and brilliantly compared to the Omen 'Gaming' laptop.

Not impressed. Ideas anyone?

Cheers CD

Hi @doobre1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear you waiting a full minute just to see the boot list on a “gaming” laptop. Let’s try the below few steps to fix this.

1.Measure boot stages in Ubuntu

          systemd-analyze time

         systemd-analyze critical-chain

If you see something like Startup finished in 1min 12s (firmware) + …, the delay is in firmware.

  1. Try a truly cold boot Shut down, remove all USB/peripherals, wait 10–20 seconds, then power on. External drives or printers can make UEFI “handshake” slowly. Users have reported dramatic pre‑logo delays caused by attached USB storage.

You’ll feel the difference immediately if this is the cause the HP logo appears faster, and the system flows into GRUB like a clean breeze instead of a sticky crawl.

2.Firmware (BIOS/UEFI) settings to check on HP OMEN

Enter the HP Startup Menu (Esc repeatedly at power‑on), then F10 for BIOS.

  1. Boot mode consistency
    • Pick UEFI only, disable Legacy if Ubuntu was installed in UEFI mode (most modern installs are). Mixed modes confuse bootloaders and slow things down.
  2. Secure Boot
    • Try disabling Secure Boot while testing. Some systems boot faster and avoid driver handshakes; you can re‑enable later if needed.
  3. Boot order
    • Put NVMe/SATA OS drive first; disable Network/PXE boot if you don’t use it (that scan costs seconds every boot).

      I hope this helps.

Hi there, I was just wondering if there has been any recent progress on this, since I read several users with the same problem on that laptop.

Yes I have done all the usual things to try and get it to run at least as well as win10. All that you describe and more. including firmware/drivers, bios up-to-date. Install along-side and "something else" installation. switch desktop environments.

But I don't hold out much luck, since I have read that some manufacturers did/are using something to inhibit linux running on laptops that were "designed" for windows with a TPM.
