Hi @Cold_2024,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like your HP Victus laptop is facing a permissions issue that prevents you from shutting down the device, indicating a possible configuration problem with your user account permissions. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check User Account Permissions

Ensure that your user account has administrative rights:

  1. Open Settings:
    • Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to "Accounts" > "Your info":
    • Check if it says "Administrator" under your account name. If it says "Standard User," you’ll need to log in with an Administrator account.

Step 2: Use the Command Prompt to Shut Down

You can try shutting down the laptop using Command Prompt with administrative privileges:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
    • Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin).
  2. Enter the Shutdown Command:

Step 3: Check Group Policy Settings (For Pro Editions)

If you're using Windows 10/11 Pro or Enterprise, there might be a Group Policy setting restricting shutdown:

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor:
    • Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to the Shutdown Options:
    • Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
  3. Locate "Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands":
    • Ensure this setting is Not Configured or Disabled.

Step 4: Check Power Options

Sometimes, power settings can be misconfigured:

  1. Open Control Panel:
    • Search for Control Panel in the Start menu.
  2. Go to "Power Options":
    • Click on "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left panel.
    • Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
    • Ensure that "Turn on fast startup" is unchecked. Sometimes, this option causes shutdown issues.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Cold_2024 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Step 5: Disable Fast Startup in BIOS

Fast Startup can sometimes prevent a proper shutdown:

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 (or the appropriate key) to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Navigate to Power Options or similar settings.
  3. Disable Fast Startup, save the changes, and exit BIOS.

Step 6: Reset Power Plans

Resetting the power plan to default might help:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run the Command

Step 7: Check for Pending Updates

Ensure there are no pending updates that require permission:

  1. Open Settings:
    • Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Check for Updates:
    • Install any pending updates, as they might be blocking the shutdown process.

Step 8: Scan for Malware

Malware can sometimes prevent shutdown:

  1. Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program to ensure your system is not compromised.

These steps should help resolve the issue with shutting down your HP Victus laptop. If the problem persists, you may need to consider creating a new user account with administrative rights or performing a system restore to a point before the issue began.
