Hello, @Richard842 - Greetings!
Thanks for accessing the HP Support Forums for extra support! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel 🙂
I understand you are facing issues while setting up wireless on your Envy 7640 printer since you cannot enter the special characters using the printer control panel. Ideally, you can enter the special characters using the front panel. There would be an option to enable the special characters (Probably an "?" or some other symbol on the keypad like some older cell phone models)
If the issue persists, then I would suggest you install the printer using the USB cable and then convert the USB connected printer to Wireless to get it connected. In this way, you do not need to enter the password using the printer display.
Here are the steps:
- First, go to http://hp.care/2omOX5O to download and install the printer drivers.
- In the connectivity tab, select "USB"
- Connect the USB cable and finish the printer installation.
If you want to change from a USB to wireless network connection, use the Printer Setup & Software utility that installed with your printer software.
-
Search for the printer name, and then click the name of your printer.
The printer software opens.
-
Click Tools, and then click Device Setup & Software.
-
Select the option which says "Convert a USB printer to Wireless"
-
Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Cheers 🙂
