Hi again, landmark2018,

I, Josota, posted the message you just answered.  I tagged BurkinDesign who had also contributed to this chain.  Thanks for responding.

I agree, the Troubleshooting program for the HP Printer on the "Devices and Printers"  page of Programs cannot identify what is wrong.  But, in my case, while it is going through its process, it does reconnect the printer to my wireless network each time.  It won't tell me how.  And it does it all day long whenever that ridiculous printer drops off the network.

Since my laptop and printer are in different rooms, it has reduced my outrage a bit just not needing to go to another room to restart it constantly.  But, it is still extremely annoying to have to run another program every time I want to print!

I have never encountered this before with ANY printer.

HP may make good hardware, but it really needs new programmers for its software.  Even this website is difficult to use, since when I choose to type in a response, I am unable to see the previous comments.  I have two screens open just to be able to refer back to the message chain.

HP - you can do better than this!

@Alliance1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • What is the exact model for your printer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • What is the exact issue you are facing?
  • Are you getting any error messages?
  • Are you able to make a copy?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!

We've used HP printers for decades... most recently a 8600 and then a year or two ago an additional 8720.  We've gotten more and more disappointed last couple of years.  All started with the update that wouldn't accept non-HP cartridges then they fixed that and everything was fine.  Now, in the last year or so our printers are dropped off the network and won't reconnect without removing power then re-applying it.  I followed the instructions to set a manual network address about a month ago for the 8720 and last week it was off the network again.  I'm trowing out t HP printers this week.  Message to HP:  Don't know why you're doing this to your most loyal customers.  But I don't have anymore time for you.  I'm going to try Epson or somebody that seems to appreciate long-term, loyal customers.  GOOD BYE!

@CRB69,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

Have done the first two items, no luck.  How do you update firmware?  Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

You can update the firmware using this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Also, try these steps:

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)

2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.

3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.

4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

Have a great day!
