I recently got a new router which supports both 2.5 and 5 GHz however we recently had wifi issues in our home and our service provider told us it's because we had both 2.5 and 5 turned on at the same time and we had to much traffic pointing to both at the same time (causing different connections to drop in the house). They suggested turning off the 2.5GHz however now our printer does not detect the 5ghz wifi connection.

Soooo we turned the 2.5GHz on only when we need to print (yes, inconvenient I know). However the new problem is that my desktop PC (plugged into the router) isn't detecting the printer every time we need to print. Yesterday the only way I could get the desktop to print was:

1. Ensure router has 2.5 GHz wifi turned on.

2. Turn printer off and on, if printing doesn't start then

3. Go through the printer wifi wizard to reconnect to the wifi

4. If the printer still doesn't start printing, turn it off and then back on

This has to be done for EACH print job. Yesterday I had to print 5 one page documents and it took me 45 minutes to go through this cycle.

NOTE: The printer continually says that it's connected to the wifi, however it's the PC not detecting the printer on the wifi network. If I go through the above steps, sometimes printing starts when I get through the wizard and other times I have to turn the printer off and back on to print.

I'm also frustrated that this printer doesn't have the option to plug a cat 5 cable into the router 😕

How can I get my desktop to continually detect the printer on the network without having to go through all of those steps on my printer?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting printer connectivity issues.

If the router is set to 2.4GHz  and still you are getting connectivity issues, follow the below steps.

Download and run Print and Scan doctor.

Download link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

  • Run PSDR v5.0.2
  • Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.
  • Select the correct Printer and click on Next.
  • PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing
  • Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.
  • Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”
  • PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.
  • Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

If the issue persists, assign static IP address

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says, “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says, “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
  • Restart the printer and then router once done.

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

I tried to run that .exe and it didn't help. It would detect my device and I would select it, but then when I clicked continue it then couldn't communicate with the printer. It had me turn off the printer and back on to try again, no luck. I would then go through the wireless wizard on the printer again to reconnect to my 2.4 wifi and then when I clicked on the Retry on the Print and Scan doctor, a second printer would appear. Sometimes I see one and some times I see two:

HP photsmart 7150 series (Network) and/or Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-Once-C311a

I tried to select either of them and click continue and again, I'd get the message that it couldn't commuicate with the printer (and it again would say to recycle the printer).

I additionally tried your secon set of stes and although the steps you noted weren't exact how my HP menus appeared to be on my screen, I figured out how to change the IP and the DNS and enable IPP. None of that worked either. I even when back to try to run the .exe doctor thing again after I changed my IP and it's still finding the device, but then again not detecting it.

One time when running the .exe and selecting  Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-Once-C311a (the new printer listed) it prompted me to install new software and also go through the wireless set up. I did both of that as well, however it's still not detecting it even though the printer shows connected to my network AND gives me an IP address.

I've tried to set the factory defaults back on the printer too and start all over and nothing is working now.

Let's try updating the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-7510-e-all-in-one-printer-series-c311/5070118/mod...

Restart the printer.

If the issue persists, I have sent you a private message, to contact HP Phone support depending on the product that cannot be shared in a public post.

Can you please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
