HP Envy 5660
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have an HP Envy 5660 and have had a few issues here and there, but overall it has worked pretty faithfully.  I printed on it this morning, in fact.  But I am trying to print what I will need for tomorrow and now I can't get it to work.  When I click print on my computer like I always do, it says printer not connected (both my Mac and the printer are connected to wifi and say secure.)  I tried to remove the printer from my computer and reinstall it but it is not even popping up as an option to reinstall.  I have tried turning the printer off and back on and unplugging it and plugging it back in.  Nothing is seeming to work.  I have no idea how to fix this problem.

@emily26, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Check the connectivity by performing a PING test

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss. Share the results.

Refer to this document to know how to reconnect the printer to the wireless network.

Let me know how this goes.
