HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer series
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I recently got an HP Envy 4520 printer with the intention of using it for schoolwork in college. However, my school bans the use of wireless printers due to their negative impact on internet connectivity and bandwidth. Is there any way to connect the printer to my school's wi-fi without the printer itself broadcasting a network, or using the printer via a wired connection?

Your school bans this.

>>> printer itself broadcasting a network,

Yes, printer will broadcast its own network, you can use password to protect it otherwise everyone can print.

>>> or using the printer via a wired connection?

The best option in this enviroment is to use USB cable, you have to buy one for around $10.

Probably not.  You school most likely uses Enterprise Authentication which home printer do not support.   You can use Wireless Direct or USB cable to connect.  Info all in your User guide on the HP web site.
