HP ENVY 4524
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HPEnvy 4524 is connected to wifi, so i can print, but it won't connect to the internet due to DNS fail. I hope you will be able to advise me, as this printer has been fab up until now. Thanks!

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel!

 

I see that you are unable to connect the printer to the internet because of the DNS error. I would recommend you first assign a public DNS address for the printer to try and fix this issue. Here are the steps:

 

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
  • Restart both the printer and the router and then try to connect to the internet.

 

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Thanks for the advice. All the instructions make sense, and i can get to the embedded web server using the IP address, and the menus and options are just as you describe. However,  I get the error message "invalid output" when i try and change the settings as you describe.

 

If i go to the wireless setup wizard on here, which you did not ask me to do, but i am using my initiative, it claims not to be connected to the printer, despite the fact that it clearly is, as i am looking at the printer on the web server and have just printed something successfully.

 

what shall i try next?

Try to perform a network power drain. Here are the steps:

 

·         Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

·         Wait for 2-3 minutes.

·         Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

·         Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

·         Then turn on the printer and other devices.

 

Now, try to assign a manual DNS address as I suggested in my previous post. 

 

If the issue persists, try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

Great, i checked the settings on the router, and now this fix works perfectly. Thank you for your help!
