I hve gotten 3 calls today from a number 866-756-0309.  A very foreign voice I could barely understand told me that my printer was sending messages back to HP servers.  I could barely understand the man, and I am not home to do anything about either printers.  Is this legit?  How can I get someone who is intelligible to help me with this issue if it is indeed an issue????

Hi:

No one from HP, Microsoft, etc will ever call you out of the blue, and tell you that there is something wrong with your PC, printer or other electronic device.

That number is not an HP support number.

It is a scam, pure and simple.

Some of these guys make it sound real legitimate.  They may know your name, phone number and even have the model and serial number of the device they say has a problem.

Rest assured that HP will never do this.

@ScoutYvonne

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

Good move!

I have been called around 3 times in the past year by these scammers.

My son trifled with one of them he told me when they called his house, and was giving the guy a bunch of bogus info and the guy hung up on him.  :generic:

I received the same call today and knew it was a scam.

I called the number back and got HP SMART FRIEND and reported the incident.

SOMEONE IS SPOOFING HP'S NUMBER!

Thank you for your message.  I do have all the information and names plus other phone numbers.  I really thought it was legit but now know it was a scam.  I will block all calls from any 800 service numbers.

Just had repeated calls from the same number in the last 24 hours.

I was called by this number 2 times yesterday. First time I was in dr office and couldn't answer. Second time I answered. The man asked for me by name. I said who is this. He said in an extremely foreign accent "Garry". I said I don't know you, what do you want. He then preceded to tell me that he got my number from Facebook and wanted friendship. This is impossible because I don't have Facebook. I told him that and then he got very rude and vulgar and stated and these are his exact words: " I want to F**K you B***H. I immediately felt threatened and angry and said " I will KILL you and hung up lol.

These are hackers and please DONOT respond to this calls.  If you respond, they would try to connect remote to your computer and hack with malware software.  Don't just believe them.

I called HP and who confirmed that

a) 866-756-0309 number is not listed in their official registry

b) No HP agent or support guy will call you that you have a problem.

please pass on this message.

regards
