When setting up, I chose the free, 15 page per month option by accident. I bought the printer with the intent of using the 3 month trial of instant ink, but I don’t know whether or not I can use it as my printer is now set up.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the Instant Ink query.
Yes, you can still use your 3 free months. Change the plan to 50-page or above and that should resolve your problem. To change the Instant Ink plan, refer to this document - HP Instant Ink - Changing Your HP Instant Ink Plan

Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
