I am looking for a way to ask HP for a replacement cartridge, without paying $20 for out of warranty support. I cannot tell from the response I got from HP (above) whether they are actually addressing my question. Anyone have any suggestions to make this a simpler task?

I would be embarrassed to send someone anything coming out of my printer with the smudged edges and the gaps, especially vertical black print. The cleaning and alignment didn't help at all.
