The person who had a subscription died . We thought the sub was by direct debit. Once we got probate and closed the deceased's accounts we realised that the subscription was via the bank card and once that was stopped we were unable to print. We called for advice and spoke for 1 hour and 40 minutes to an HP agent. We were told that we had to cancel the subscription and set up a new one for the deceased's civil partner who is his sole beneficiary. We had given the serial number but were not told that the printer would be too old for a new subscription. This is what happened at the end and the HP agent said we could buy a new printer.
Now we are unable to print even though till yesterday it printed fine and we have a lot of ink so is there any way to resuscitate the old subscription or simply to transfer it to the beneficiary? Given it worked before is it possible to make it work again?

The below info is incorrect: this is what I did and now cannot print as the old printer cannot be added toa new subscription!
If the account associated with your HP Instant Ink subscription has been stopped due to the account holder's passing, you will need to open a new HP Instant Ink account to continue using the service. Here’s a step-by-step guide on what you need to do:
- Create a New HP Instant Ink Account:
- Go to the HP Instant Ink website and sign up for a new account with a different email address.
- Choose a suitable plan based on your printing needs.
- Set Up the New Account with Your Printer:
- On your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, access the HP web services through the printer’s control panel or by using the HP Smart app.
- Register the printer with your newly created HP Instant Ink account.
- Check the Compatibility of Remaining Ink Cartridges:
- The ink cartridges you received through the previous HP Instant Ink service will need to be used according to the terms set by the subscription. Usually, the cartridges are designed to work only as long as you have an active subscription.
- If these cartridges are from your previous subscription plan, they may not be usable after switching accounts or may only work if they are recognized as eligible by HP's servers linked to your printer’s new Instant Ink account.
- Contact HP Support:
- It is advisable to contact HP support for guidance specific to your situation, especially regarding any remaining ink that might have been associated with the previous account, to ensure continuity of service without interruptions.
- Consider Ink Alternatives:
- If you encounter issues with your leftover ink cartridges, you might need to purchase standard ink cartridges for your printer temporarily until your new Instant Ink subscription is fully active.
Using these steps will help ensure you remain connected to HP Instant Ink services smoothly. If you have more specific concerns or issues, it may be beneficial to contact HP customer support for personalized assistance.
