HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy 5055 that will not print the black ink.  When I print a quality report, the colors seem to print, but black is not printing at all. I tried again today to print 2 reports with the same results.

The HP Smart app shows the ink cartridge is full, but the black ink won't print. I've tried all the steps at https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05538986, to no avail.

A similar issue was posted at https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/HP-Instant-Ink/Black-not-printing-cartirdges-are-full-but-appear-to-be... . It seems I need a new black ink cartridge. I'm enrolled in the InstantInk program; how do I get a replacement cartridge shipped?

Thank you for responding to me.

I haven't gotten the PM; my private email box on HP support is empty.

Have to admit it, but I forgot to take the tape off the cartridge so the ink would not go through.  Maybe that's the problem?

Thanks for the tip but I did, in fact, take off the tape.

Hello @Elohi_NR,

I got the new ink, thanks. The print quality page now prints flawlessly. But:

1) I got an email saying this is not an instant ink cartridge and I need to reach out to HP to get one. Is this something I need to act on? Will I still get the regular ink shipments and not pay the monthly fee?

2) My photo printing still looks pretty bad. The colors are super saturated and the printer seems to be using way too much ink (The printout has more wet ink on it than it used to). Do you have any ideas what's wrong, now that the black ink is ok?

Thanks.

Hi @youngdesigns,

Thanks for your reply and you are welcome!

About the email, you don't have to worry, as far as you are enrolled in instant ink as per your page plan and your payment is up to date.

And regarding the photo printing issue, I would like to know which application are you using to print photos from and what is the quality set to.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thank you for the follow up.

I'm printing my photos using "Microsoft Photos" on Windows 10. I also printed using LibreOffice Draw. In both cases, the result was the same. i.e., over-saturated colors and too much ink on the printout.

The print quality is set to "Normal". (Which is the default; I didn't mess with that).

Thanks.

I've updated the driver. It's at update 9/21/2022, version 139.2.289.0.  (I checked, that is the app version, not the IP address).

I've played with all the settings and paper types and every one still comes out with too much ink.
