Hi @HAS1959,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with a failed cartridge in the middle of a print job can be frustrating. Here’s how you can address the situation.

Replacing the Black Cartridge:

  • First, make sure you have a replacement black cartridge on hand.
  • Turn off the printer and wait for it to completely power down before proceeding with the replacement.
  • Open the printer cover or cartridge access door (this process may vary slightly depending on your HP printer model).
  • Carefully remove the failed black cartridge by gently pulling it out. Be cautious not to touch the contacts or ink nozzles.
  • Unpack the new cartridge from its packaging and remove any protective tapes or covers.
  • Insert the new cartridge into the correct slot, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
  • Close the printer cover or cartridge access door.

Resetting Page Count:

  • Unfortunately, most printers do not have a feature to manually adjust the page count. The page count is usually tracked automatically based on the number of pages successfully printed.
  • If the printout was unusable due to the cartridge failure, you can try to contact HP Support for assistance. They might have specific procedures or tools to help adjust the page count in situations like this.
  • Alternatively, if you are using the printer for personal use and tracking page counts for accounting purposes isn’t critical, you could note internally that the 30-page print job was not completed due to the cartridge failure.

Preventing Future Issues:

  • To prevent similar issues in the future, consider keeping spare cartridges on hand, especially if you use your printer for large print jobs or critical documents.
  • Regularly check the ink levels through the printer software or control panel to ensure cartridges are replaced before they run out completely.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
