I have cleaned the cartridge as suggested but the ink level indicator shows that it is full but the printer says it is empty. This is a brand new cartridge.

Welcome to HP support community.
Provide the printer model number or the product number?
Which operating system is installed on the computer to which this printer is connected?
How is the printer connected, USB or Wireless?
Meanwhile:
Make a copy and check if that prints fine.
Reply with the requested information for more assistance.
Cheers.

My printer is the HP Photosmart C7180 All-in-one. Microsoft 10 and my laptop is connected via USB port. I have had this combination for years and have never had a problem with installing any of the ink cartridges. Any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated. I really like my printer, not the cost of the ink since the black is the second that I have bought in 5 months.
