@bls5, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
This seems like an issue with the black ink cartridge or the printhead of the printer. Lets us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Make sure to use compatible ink cartridges.
For more info on compatible ink cartridges, refer to step 3 of this document
Check the estimated ink levels
On the printer control panel, touch the Ink Level Indicator icon . The control panel displays estimated ink levels.
Make sure none of the ink cartridges are empty. Replace any low or empty cartridges.
Clean the printhead

From the printer control panel, open the Setup
menu.

Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.
Also, perform step 9 mentioned in this document.

If you have tried the troubleshooting steps provided and the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:
1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
