Hi @ Badger71

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Tips for understanding printer alignment messages

Use these tips to help complete the alignment or remove the message.

  • Use clean white paper: Make sure the printer is loaded with unused, clean white paper, and then retry alignment.

  • Scan page if required: If your printer has a scanner, you might see instructions on the alignment page to place the page on the scanner bed and press Scan. Follow the instructions on the alignment page to complete the scan.

  • Choose 'Skip' to continue printing: If the 'Alignment Unsuccessful' message cannot be resolved, and you see a Skip button, you can choose to continue printing without alignment. Print quality might be affected.

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Check estimated ink levels and replace any low or empty ink cartridges

Check estimated ink levels to see if any ink cartridges are critically low or empty. Replace any critically low or empty ink cartridges.

If these tips do not resolve alignment issues,

Clean the printhead

To clean the printhead, go to Tools on the printer control panel.

  1. Load plain white paper into the tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), and then touch Tools.

  4. Touch Clean Printhead. There are three cleaning stages. A test page (different from the Print Quality Diagnostics page) prints between each cleaning stage. Do not use this test page for analysis. Touch No when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning.

  5. realign the printer to determine if the issue is resolved.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
