Solved!

Can I continue to use the setup ink cartridges after I cancel my Instant Ink subscription?

OfficeJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I decide to cancel my Instant Ink subscription and return to retail ink -- I print very few pages and the plan isn't for me. Can I continue to use the setup cartridges (marked both "setup" and "instant ink") that came with my printer, or should I have a set of new cartridges ready now?

Thanks!

@dbaldocchi, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Setup ink is used for initializing the printer and cannot be re-used once taken out. You'll need a new set of cartridges for the printer to work after canceling the Instant Ink Subscription.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you very much for your answer. If I have never taken out those setup cartridges, could I continue to use them? Thanks!

@dbaldocchi

I'm afraid, you'd not be able to. You'll need to replace the Instant Ink cartridges with the regular ones.

Thanks!
