Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cancelled the INK service and bought a new set of cartridges before the end of the cancellation billing cycle however, the printer says "Incompatible cartridges", I don't need to wait for the end of the billing cycle so I can print, or is this the way the service works? if it is this is a very poor service, I want to use the printer whenever is needed.

Hi @ace0721,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with using regular ink cartridges on your Printer.

As you are looking to replace the instant ink cartridges with regular ink cartridges.

Please make sure you remove all the instant ink cartridges and use regular ink cartridges to print.

If you have a mix and match of both instant ink and regular ink cartridges, the printer will not work.

Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the regular cartridges into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

Also, update the printer firmware by clicking on this link.

Thanks for the reply however, this solution only works for the Original Cartridges, I also have generic cartridges and tried to use them and they don't work, any workaround? I should be able to use my printer with any cartridge I want and not obliged to use HP original.

Thanks for the follow up however, I tried to update the printer (HP OfficeJet 3830) firmware and it's up to date, tried to use the generic cartridges and still don't work.

Hi @ace0721,

Please use genuine HP ink cartridges to resume printing as generic ink cartridges may or might not work.

I don't find fare to the customers to push them to buy original cartridges so the printer can work, that is up to the customer to decide what cartridge to use, imposing to buy what the manufacturer wants is not a fare game, when selling the product this needs to be communicated to the customer so they can decide to proceed with the purchase or not.

At the end of the day my generic cartridges didn't work and now I live in a country where the cartridge can't be purchased in any retail, I tried to buy online but can't find original cartridges, so now I am stranded with a printer that I can't use.
