Deskjet 3636
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all i have recieved a secondhand Deskjet 3636. It has no ink in it so I cannot print anything yet. I want to enroll in Instant Ink but I need a printed code to do so, because it has no ink i cannot print anything, and the original card was lost ages ago. How do I get this code? Theres a tiny screen and it wont display any email or anything so I'm completely stumped.

It's OK - you can get help.

One way, though you may have to wait for regular business hours, is to contact Instant Ink Support.

I just checked, your regional Instant Ink website does provide the contact phone number.

While you have the website open, and before you sign up - please do take the time to read the Terms of Service contract.

Best informed and all that.  People who save money using a Print-by-Page subscription are those who print hardly at all - or those who print regularly on a monthly basis.  People in the second category might be teachers, small businesses, those with large families, anyone who regularly prints large photos or full documents.

Phone contact, where available, will likely be posted on the main website (front page).  For example, look for the contact number in the blue ribbon just under the introduction section / image, toward the right side of the window.  Not there?  Try scrolling to the bottom.

Of Interest…

  • Section Check to see if your HP printer works with Instant Ink
  • FAQ section > READ How does HP Instant Ink work?
  • The all-important Contract > Link is located below the FAQ section > Terms of Service Contract

NOTES:

  • It is NOT necessary that you be enrolled to read the contract
  • Contract:  Open the main website > Change region / flag > scroll down just past the FAQ
  • The contract also provides contact information, usually in the very first section.

Yes, your little printer lacks a text screen.  It uses symbols and lights to tell you what it is thinking..

See the  User Guide for explanations and help.

Hi. I appreciate the reply but phoning didn't help. They simply told me to buy a genuine ink cartridge before I can sign up for instant ink which is the most backwards thing I've ever heard. So they've lost my custom because I'm not buying ink only to sign up to a service that should be able to provide a workaround.

Ah, OK.  I thought they could simply issue a code.  My apologies.

You can change your mind later or simply not use the service at all.

I don't print enough to make it useful but I do understand the benefits for people who print often / regularly.

The value of the service, as you say, must be measured against what is necessary to obtain the service.

Solution Options

  • Purchase one set of ink to get you through the initial signup and the ten days to two weeks to get the service started (and receive first Instant Ink shipment)
  • Do not purchase ink.  (Donate the printer?)
  • Purchase ink but do not sign up for the service.
