Cartridge Ink Low appears on screen after trying 3 new black cartridges

HP Envy 5020 printer

HP Envy 5020 printer Product No. M2U91B.  I have installed 3 separate new HP 304 black cartridges and each time screen comes up with Cartridge very low and wont print anything - just invites me to enrol in HP Instant ink.  What can I do?  I only bought the printer last year.

Hi @Macymoo

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • Is color ink cartridge working fine?
  • Make sure the orange protective tape is removed from the new ink cartridge before inserting it.

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, perform the steps mentioned in this document.

 

If the issue persists, I'm afraid the issue is with the printer as you have used 3 new ink cartridges.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
