Cartridge stuck on right side, screen stuck on "cartridge cannot be used.."

The ink cartridges are stuck all the way on the right side of the inside of the printer.

The screen is also stuck on an error that says " The cartirdges cannot be used until enrolled in HP instant ink" which i would sign up for if the screen wasnt stuck!

The wifi light is flashing but thats all. There is no home, question mark, or back button lit up at all.

Hey there! @dopamineopt

Have you checked if the printer is online and connected to the internet?

Are you trying to use the old HP Instant ink cartridges on this new printer? Is so, then it might not work.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage moves into the ink cartridge access area.

    1. Location of the ink cartridge access door slot

  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

  4. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

You must unplug the power cord to move the carriage by hand and reset the paper feed mechanism without the risk of electrical shock.

  5. Use a flashlight to check for any paper or objects that might be restricting the carriage, and then remove any paper or objects that you find.

If the paper tears when you remove it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the printer. If pieces of paper remain in the printer, more paper jams can occur.

  6. Reach inside the printer through the ink cartridge access door, and then manually move the carriage.

If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the printer, move the carriage to the left side of the printer.

Remove any loose paper or obstructions found.

Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the printer. Firmly push the carriage to the left side of the printer, and then push it to the right side.

Close the ink cartridge access door.

Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.

Please try connecting the printer to the network.

You will need to either enroll in Instant Ink or buy regular HP cartridges to resume printing.
If you see this message when you ARE enrolled, then there may be a problem with the cartridge or with the printer enrollment.
Go to and click the link to Sign In, which is located at the top right of the page, or under the 3 horizontal lines if you are on a mobile device.
If you are able to log in, then you do have an account.
Click the Printer Details link under the printer name to check the serial number of the enrolled printer and make sure it matches the printer you are using.
