Cartridges can only be used in the printer they were originally installed in.

I have a HP 6230 Envy Photo. I bought a bunch of used 64/303 cartidges. (instant ink)

They fit just fine, and the printer knows they are there, but the printer wont allow them to be used. I get an error message saying they can only be used in the printer they were originally installed in.

How can I use them ?  Anyone got a solution?

@Nick20202020, Welcome to HP Support Community!

HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to the HP anti-counterfeit webpage (in English).

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

Here I see that the printer does not accept the used ink which is normal because the previous users would have locked the ink to their printer via cartridge lock option.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
