Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Not long after my warranty, (this feels like a scam to me) I now can't print anything. I've had my printer for some time now and it's always printed as I needed it to but now it wont recognise paper. Paper is available and correctly loaded (I've had this printer for long enough to know how to load paper correctly!) despite this I get an error no paper message.

I can press on the button which shoots a page of paper through and that works fine- paper comes through without an issue with more sitting waiting to go. Then the printer proceeds to print the air....(not paper).

I'm paying for Instant Ink. I'm unhappy to be paying for ink I am not able to use. I've experimented with this several times over (loading one page at a time, loading several at once as I usually do, trying to print different things eg word documents, pictures...it happens with everything.

I can get help...if I pay for it. I'm not happy to be paying for what I feel is a scam. This printer was working perfectly until the warranty ran out, this is the first time I've tried to print since it has. I want to know if anyone has had similar happen and how I cancel Instant Ink.

If anyone from HP wants to weigh in on this this would be appreciated as it seems your virtual assistant is just a wind up merchant, there seems no other way to contact you unless I'm willing to pay for a service which feels to scam like to me. Otherwise I'm looking for anyone who either has any last thing advice or direction on how to cancel this whole mess so I can move on to a better brand!

Hey there! @scream12345,

Are you using regular ink cartridges or instant ink cartridges on the printer?

Please stop Web Services on the printer to cancel instant ink services.

HP Instant Ink > How to > Instant Ink > Manage Account > Turning Off Web Services

Optional - be sure Web Services is "off":

After you switch off Web Services, wait a minute and then switch off the printer.

Wait until the printer is completely shut down > wait a minute or two.

Switch on the printer.

Install all new HP ink -- replacing/installed "a" new ink won't do it -- all Instant Ink cartridges must be removed regardless of whether they have ink.

Also, if you have issues printing. Please share us few details through a private message.

So I can check the account details and help you with the issue.

Instant ink account number-

Instant ink email address-

Printer serial number-

Hope this helps!

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Thank you for your reply.

I am using the same Instant Ink cartridges HP sent me, I've still only on my second load of these- despite having the printer for years now. (Yes they are patchy-or at least were patchy when the printer was working!) I've never used anything but the official Instant Ink cartridges sent by HP. I've never messed around with them, never refilled them and never replaced them with anything but what was sent by HP when they did send a new set of cartridges.

Ideally, I'd like the printer to work. I'm struggling to believe it's just coincidence the printer has stopped working properly (registering paper or eventually when it does, spitting out a blank page followed by printing nothing straight after- despite there being more than enough paper waiting to be printed on).

The details you asked about the account;

Instant ink email address-

Printer serial number-

A few days ago I was charged again for this month. I also am unhappy to have tried to print for the previous month but the printer wasn't working and I had to go elsewhere and pay a premium- that should not have happened! I feel I am due back for at least two months payment on this.

I am also wary of buying another HP printer- I have already put off several friends and two businesses who were contemplating the feature. They also felt this was a little too coincidental. For that reason I had posted this as an open question to give HP the chance to resolve this (I did try the "chat" service but the feature wasn't working and there is no option I can find on your website to email. I am also unhappy to pay for a service which feels more like a scam then a fault).

I will cancel the Instant Ink account. I will additionally be asking my bank via the Direct Debit to be refunding me the past 2 months. I would additionally appreciate someone telling me what to do about a printer that should be working properly (I have not done anything to the printer for it to all of a sudden not recognise paper and print the air). It annoys me that I will have no option then to send this printer to landfill. So much for the environment!

Hi! @scream12345,

Thanks for writing back to us.

I have checked the account details and the account looks fine.

It sounds like an issue with the printer or the ink cartridges.

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from the printer?

Also, Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page and check if the issue persists.

  1. Load paper into the input tray.

  2. Open or search for the HP folder in your list of installed software programs, click the folder for your printer, and then click the name of your printer.

The HP Printer Assistant software opens.

  3. On the HP Printer Assistant window, click Maintain Your Printer.

  4. Click the Device Services tab, and then click Print Quality Diagnostics Page ().

I'll watch your reply!

Take Care!
