Defective Cartridge

I have HP Instant Ink but the new cartridge is defective and the printer doesn't like it - gives error message "remove and reinstall indicated cartridge making sure it is correctly installed".  If I reinstall the old depleted cartridge the error goes away but if I reinstall the new one the error message comes up again.  Would seem to indicate the cartridge is defective.  How do I fix

I have an instant  subscription. On of my cartridges has gone bad but i cant tell which one because im getting a error message for the print head. I reset the printer by taking out the cartridges removing power for 2 min and starting the printer back up without the cartridges like it said in the forum. I did an alignment and it worked for 2 days. First time it had a code ending on 0035 not it says 0x0
