HP DeskJet 2722 All-in-One Printer

My cousin died, and his family found his printer, which he had and instant ink subscription for. No one can login to his account, and we don't want to make the printer basically e-waste. At this point that's how it feels though when I can't make an instant ink subscription because one is already tied to his account, and therefore this printer, HP support wants me to buy a package to speak to customer support, which is already ridiculous.  This exclusivity online only nonsense is baffling, and has turned a perfectly good printer into a heavy paperweight. Can anyone help with this problem, or is HPs own service making this just plain impossible?
