Had my ink cartridges refilled at a local Costco. Replaced the ink and received an error message. Checked the web and this community. Followed one persons messages and it ended with no solution. Hoping to reopen the conversation and see if there is a way to make this work. Any suggestions or did I just waste money refilling them?

You might have wasted your money. 😞

If your printer was manufactured after December 1, 2016, it is subject to Dynamic Security.

This printer model / series was introduced in mid-2016

YOUR printer might have been manufactured during that time or a bit later (production of successful series sometimes continues for a while, maybe a number of months).

HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers

The firmware, once installed, cannot be "undone".

The most recent version of firmware for this printer provides a network update.

Any version of the firmware would include the Security measures.

What is going on?

  • The chips in HP cartridges are not meant to be "reused" - they don't reset just because you put more ink in the cartridge.
  • The Dynamic Security setup (for printers manufactured after December 1, 2016) may prevent use of non-HP ink.
  • The cartridges might just be "bad" or at least unreadable, unusable for other reasons.

Regardless of the reason / cause,

There is no "fix" and no support for "refilled" or "re-manufactured" or Non-HP cartridges.
