Product: HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer

What sort of weird entrapment program is HP running with Instant Ink? I enrolled, but I don't print much,  had unused cartridges and didn't want any more.  So I cancelled the program, but when I needed to print something just now and loaded the new cartridge, the printer refused to work. HP agent explained, the special subscription cartridges only work while you are subscribed to the program. 

So I now have a couple of useless cartridges and need to find a store so I can print.

Wondering if this breaches Australian consumer laws - providing a product that then can't be used?

I can understand your concern. As its a paper-based subscription not an ink based subscription, the ink usage is blocked once the subscription is cancelled.
