HP insta ink cannot connect with printer

Hi. Hope someone can help. 

I am enrolling with HP Insta Ink with my HP Envy 5010. I have the HP Smart app on my iPhone 6. 

The app says my printer is on line. But it can’t connect to it. 

I can’t print with my insta ink cartridge as it says I need to enroll.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print from your iPhone. I'd be happy to assist you.


Is the printer enrolled in Instant Ink?


Check the connectivity between the devices.

  • Make sure the printer and the iPhone are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the iPhone should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.


Also, check for updates on the iOS device. 

Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

Have you checked your HP Instant Ink account page? Your Instant Ink account page will have notifications if there are any issues with the account or recent cartridge shipment, it will even provide solutions on how to fix the issue. You may log in to your HP Instant Ink account page from here.
