photosmart 5520

I used to be able to use non HP ink cartridges in my photosmart 5520 printer but now they get rejected with a message saying that the cartridges are protected. How can i disable this so that i can use the compatible cartridges that i have always used?

Hi,

HP Cartridge Protection is a feature which locks a cartridge to a specific printer when the printer owner has enabled this feature, once a cartridge is protected to a specific printer it cannot be unprotected and cannot be used with any other HP printer, this is not related to HP Genuine or Non-Genuine cartridges, but to the specific cartridge itself.

You must replace the print cartridge to another one that has not been protected by an HP printer.

How could/would this feature have turned itself on without my doing so?

I have never had problems before. The black cartridge from the multipack has been accepted and works fine but none of the colour ones work?

Is there anything else that you would suggest i try?

Thanks for your last reply and thanks in advance for any further assistance that you may be able to give me!
