Hi @Maryk1975,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To change the ink cartridges for an Instant Ink-enabled printer after switching printers, you will need to follow these general steps.

  • Determine the ink cartridge model: Identify the specific ink cartridge model required for your new printer. This information is typically available in the printer's user manual or on the HP website.
  • Acquire the correct ink cartridges: Purchase the appropriate ink cartridges for your new printer model. You can usually find them at office supply stores, electronics retailers, or online. Ensure that the cartridges are compatible with your printer.
  • Open the printer access door: Turn on your new printer and locate the access door or cartridge compartment. The exact location may vary depending on the printer model. Consult the user manual if you are unsure.
  • Remove the old cartridges: If there are any existing cartridges in the printer, gently remove them by following the instructions provided by the printer manufacturer. Usually, you need to press a release button or lift a latch to unlock the cartridges. Carefully pull them out from their slots.
  • Unpack and insert the new cartridges: Take the new ink cartridges out of their packaging. Remove any protective tapes or plastic covers as instructed. Insert each cartridge into the corresponding slot, making sure they are properly aligned. You should hear a click or feel a slight resistance when the cartridges are correctly inserted.
  • Close the access door: Ensure that the cartridges are securely in place. Close the printer access door, making sure it latches or locks properly. This ensures that the printer recognizes the new cartridges.
  • Allow the printer to align the cartridges: In some cases, your printer may need to align the newly installed cartridges. This process typically involves printing an alignment page and following the on-screen instructions. Allow the printer to complete the alignment process if prompted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
