Hi @Krupcia,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy 5530 printer is not recognizing the black 61XL ink cartridge. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.
Check Compatibility: Ensure that the HP 61XL ink cartridges are compatible with your HP Envy 5530 printer. Sometimes, regional differences can affect compatibility.
Reinsert the Cartridge: Remove the black ink cartridge, turn off the printer, wait for a minute, turn the printer back on, and then reinsert the cartridge. Make sure it is seated correctly.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the ink cartridge and in the printer with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water.
Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn the printer on.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
- Unplug the power cord from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and power source.
- Turn the printer back on.
Check for Protective Tape: Make sure that the protective tape over the ink cartridge’s contacts has been removed.
Use Original HP Cartridges: If you are not using genuine HP cartridges, consider switching to original HP cartridges as they are designed to work seamlessly with your printer.
Alignment and Test Print: Run an alignment and print a test page to see if the printer recognizes the cartridge after trying the above steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
