I didn't sign up for Instant Ink! HP needs to verify email addresses!

HP Recommended

I did NOT sign up for Instant Ink. I don't have an HP printer at home.  I found out I had an HP account anyway.

However, somebody with the same name as me does, and used my name to sign up for Instant Ink. HP never forced them to prove they owned the email they used to do so. I found out when HP started to send me spam about the service, and ink delivery.

I changed the password, logged in and cancelled the subscription. The person had filled in their full name, mailing address and phone number, along with the account number.  Brilliant!

1. Dear HP - Why in this day and age do you not require email verification for users signing up for your service?

2. Cancelling the Instant Ink service - It has a status of Cancellation in Progress. How long should this take?

3. Can I en-enroll the printer attached to this account, or remove the prepaid card they used?

Hi @DMcCoy

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand your concern and I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.

They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.

Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here:
